Storyboard Text

  • The little girl is a symbol of an example that MLK used in Letter From a Birmingham Jail. In this instance he is stammering to explain to your six year old daughter why she can't go to the public amusement park that has just been advertised on television. By following unjust laws, the majority is allowing unfairness to occur.
  • All three stories incorporate the idea of blindly following rules or others. Doing this can lead to dangerous or bad decisions. In Letter From a Birmingham Jail, we see that the results are acts of injustice. In The Lottery, we see that the result is Tessie's death and the death of those who came before her. In Shooting an Elephant, we see that the result is the death of an elephant.
  • The gravestone is a representation of Tessie's death in The Lottery. The townspeople have normalized murder since it is a tradition that has alwaysoccurred.
  • The elephant represents the one who was killed in Shooting an Elephant. Orwell was unable to follow his own moral compass andsuccumbed to the wishes of the larger group.
