  • WHY ARE YOU HOME SO LATE! I DON'T CARE IF THERE WAS TRAFFIC, I EXPECT YOU TO BE HERE AT 10 PM ON THE DOT!
  • The authoritarian parenting style is when parents impose rules and expect behavior. In this example the mother is upset at her daughter for not arriving home on time, and she doesn't care about the reasons why.
  • I'm so sorry I'm late, there was a lot of traffic in the parking lot, and I couldn't get here on time, I'm so sorry.
  • I don't mind that your late, I'm just happy that your home safe.
  • The permissive parenting style is more laid-back. Parents submit to their children's desires and make few demands and use little to no punishment. In this example, the mom doesn't mind that her child is home late, they are just happy to have them home and they won't receive any punishment.
  • Mom, I'm sorry that I'm here past curfew, but it won't happen again.
  • I expect you to be here at 10 pm on the dot, but it wasn't your fault that you're late, I forgive you as long as this doesn't happen again.
  • Mom, I'm sorry I'm late there was traffic on the way here and I'll make sure to be on time again.
  • Authoritative parents are both demanding and responsive. In this example, the mother is upset that her daughter is late, but she understands there was traffic.
