- In assignment 601: Doc A, Winston Churchill came to the US to explain how communism is becoming a rising form of government in Europe. He is worried that it'll spread to more countries and states and wants people to stick to Democracy in hopes of staying strong and beating the Soviet Union
- Nuclear Arms Race: There was a race between the US and Soviet Union to see who could make the most/best bombs. Hydrogen bombs were made and Atom bombs were used as deterrence. Both sides shared a Mutually assured destruction and there were many proxy wars.
- In the Article, "Facts About Fallout," we learned about the hysteria caused by the rising tensions between the US and Soviet Union. Kids were taught drills in school and brochures were handed out on what an atomic bomb was and how to protect yourself from one on how to protect themselves from a bomb. They were shown a cartoon about a turtle who would duck and cover to save himself from the danger of bombs...
- There then was a race to the moon between the Soviet Union and the US, known as the Space Race. The goal was to be able to fly to and back from the moon first to show that they had better technology than each other. The Soviet Union ended up getting there first, and this was terrifying to the US. They fought for dominance in outer space which was the cause for another proxy war.
