As the Fenians returned to Buffalo on June 7th, the US Army was instructed to take away all Fenian weapons, and arrest anyone who they thought was a Fenian. Fenian Leader John O'Neil said "We had our fight at Fort Erie and Ridgeway, but there was an enemy in our rear that we did not anticipate."
With plans fading, General Samuel Spear and his Fenian army of 1,000 men marched back into Canada, and took over Pigeon Hill. Shortly Canadian forces showed up and forced them to surrender.
On May 25th and 27th, 1870, two invasions were lead by John O'neil. On the 25th, they were defeated quickly but put up a fight, and on the 27th, they attacked Quebec and lost again with 0 Canadian casualties.
After a final defeat at Manitoba in 1871, the raids slowly became less and less frequent. In 1867, the Dominion of Canada was formed, giving Canada their independence. Although the Fenians lost, they exposed weakness in the much larger Canadian Military.
