  • in "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling, one of the main themes is turning on the people you trust leads to more chaos. For example in the first scene, it shows how when les Goodman's car turns on when there is nothing else working everybody started to turn on him, accusing him of being some sort of monster or alien which causes even more tension between characters, causing things to go more downhill. In the second scene it shows when Charlie shot Pete Van Horn thinking he was a monster which causes steve to think Charlie was the real monster as he was so quick to shoot, so quick to kill. In the third scene it depicts when Charlie was running from the crowd as they were throwing rocks and yelling at him, he tries to find a scapegoat and put the blame on someone else but then multiple lights start going off in different houses and everybody tries looking for a scapegoat, someone to be against and everything turns to chaos as the 2 figures watch over them.
