  • Upon thorough examination, Dr. Lola came up with that the students had fallen victim to whooping cough, a highly contagious bacterial infection caused by Bordetella pertussis. The bacteria had infiltrated their respiratory systems, triggering immune responses within their bodies.

  • What is happening right now is the macrophages, leukocytes and neutrophils are battling against the bacterias causing your pain. These are some white blood cells that are crucial for your immune system's safety.
  • Meanwhile, interleukins which are signaling molecules are coming up with a coordinated defense effort, bringing in reinforcements in the form of helper T cells and cytotoxic T cells. This is the cell mediated response.

  • During this battle, memory B cells are storing information about the invading bacteria, in order to have effective responses in the future. They are part of the specific immune response.

  • Cytokines also act as messengers, communicating between immune cells and inflammatory response. Inflammation signals the body's immune system to battle against invading pathogens.
