  • In the beginning of the story, The necklace, Mathilde Loisel is greedy and selfish. She complains about being poor and how her life isn't what it should be. She feels like she deserved more in life. She wants to be rich, so instead of hard work, her fastpass to get rich is to marry a wealthy man. So Mathilde Loisel marries a wealthy man but all doesn't seem well yet.
  • Climax
  • In the conflict, in The Necklace, Mathilde marries Monsieur. She didn't expect what she had hoped for. No clothes, no jewelry, nothing only soup for dinner. Her Husband was happy with his life but Mathilde was upset how she didn't have anything. The her husband brought home a invitation to his wife. But his wife simply complains about her not having a dress. Then no necklace, so she borrows a necklace from her friend.
  • Falling Action
  • She borrows her rich friends necklace and promises to bring it right back. It was beautiful so she wore it to the party. When she arrived at the party she felt like she belonged there. She partied for 3 hours straight but her husband was waiting for her in another room dozing off and wanting to go home. After the party, she looked at herself in the mirror amazingly until her necklace was no longer there around her neck. she uttered a cry.
  • Resolution
  • In a panic she tells her husband it's gone. So he tries to find it for her and looks all over the road they've crossed. He came back with nothing. So instead of telling her friend about the necklace, they tell her it's been chipped and that they'll repair it. So they go look for a necklace identical to the other. So the husband borrows money from his family, save some up and has 2 jobs and Mathilde does the housework now.
  • After getting all the money, Mathilde and her husband finally got a replacement for the necklace. It was about 36,000 dollars. Later that day, Mathilde visited her friend. Mathilde hoped she wouldn't open the box and her friend didn't. They were really stressed about replacing the necklace. But their debt still had to be paid off.
  • It took 10 years to pay their debt. Mathilde is much older now. One day she saw her old rich friend again. So after everything that has happened she tells her friend the truth. Her friend doesn't recognize her but then she remembers. She confesses everything, how she lost the necklace, that she had to get a new one. But her friend hasn't noticed. She tells Mathilde that it was a imitation, and that her previous one before it was lost was 5 hundred dollars.
