  • Robert Whittaker, a scientist, spent countless months , even years, observing and learning about organisms. He wanted to think up ways to classify them and make them further accurate.
  • 5 KINGDOM CLASSIFICATION
  • ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
  • Thus began his research. He studied the characteristics of living organisms, the proposed classification systems, and even made his own classifications.
  • In creating his classification system, Whittaker had a criteria that included cell structure, thallus organization, mode of nutrition, reproduction, and phylogenetic relationships. These criterias helped him in his research which resulted in him finishing the 5 kingdom classification.
  • ANIMALIAThe taxonomic kingdom of extinct and living animals.
  • MONGERABiological kingdom made up of prokakryotes
  • 5 KINGDOM CLASSIFICATION
  • PLANTAEIncludes all types of plants whether eukaryotic, multicellular, or autotrophic organisms.
  • FUNGIEukaryotic organisms such as yeast or molds.
  • PROTISTAEukaryotes that are not fungi, animals, or plants. These are usually usually unicellular
  • Finally, in the 60's, he proposed and explained his idea to other scientists around the world. Thankfully, it was widely accepted by them and even new studies were born thanks to this.
  • Now, the 5 kingdom classification created by Whittaker has served as the standard classification system used in textbooks and is taught in schools.
