In the year 241, there was a beautiful place it was named The City of Ember. The only downside of the city was that sometimes the lights would go out, but when they did people were afraid that they may never come on again. In the city people finished school at the age of twelve. After the people finished school they were given a job by the mayor. There is a boy named Doon that didn't like the job that he jot so he had a tantrum, then the mayor said that he would remember Doon forever.

In chapter 2 Lina went to her job for the first time. When she told her little sister and her grandma that she can finally to go to work for the first time. Her family was so happy for her. The next day she went to work and got her first customer there name was Natty Prine. In this chapter she also when't into the mayor's place.

Chapter Three
Tunnel 97 is Doon's tunnel. Doon was given a map that looked like an "immense centipede and the tunnel looked like long legs that all tangled up with each other." there was a string of dim light bulbs on the roof of the tunnel. Doon thought that he might be 50 feet underground. Doon wanted to be the one that saved the city by fixing the electricity.
