  • I'm sorry sir, but we have to punish you if you don't pay your taxes right now.
  • Please don't take me away I already told you I paid my taxes!

  • This is a scene from the Townshend Act of 1767. The guy pleading is trying to get out of paying taxes. The guards are going to take him away and punish him by pouring hot sticky tar and then put feathers all over the man. In this Act taxes were a new, big thing and it made people mad. It wasn't the price that people were mad about, it was that they had no say in the decisions for taxing. People started to stop paying taxes and they even smuggled goods.

  • The Boston Massacre of 1770 was a time when Colonists insulted British soldiers, threw snowballs and rocks at them and started a little war with the soldiers. One soldier was knocked down and that set off an alarm for the soldiers to shoot. Five colonists were killed and this led to even stronger protests and boycotts.
  • You are horrible soldiers, and you can't do anything. We are coming back tomorrow with rocks and snowballs to throw at you so be ready!
  • We do more than you so if you throw anything at us tomorrow we will shoot!
