Ramu is a laborer working at odd jobs in the town Afzalpur. He once was a farmer at Soan. After 2 consecutive drought in the village, he could'nt repay his loans , got his only land auctioned of by bank officers and was forced to migrate with his family to Afzalpur so he gets some work
He works as a seasonal laborer working at the lands of big farmers and after the harvest season, goes to the town to work under construction sites and through the MGNREGA scheme
He has a family of 3 children, 2 girl child and the youngest one being a boy, his wife and his sick father. His day wage gets exhausted for 2 square meals and can't save money. He also cant buy clothes and uses hand me down clothes and can't afford for his father's treatment.
Milk and oil are luxury for Ramu's family. When her wife goes out for work the, girls look after the house and his brother and grandfather and they dont go to school.
Ramu's Wife sometimes goes with him to work in the sites but get payed less than Ramu for the same work. Then she works as a maid for the household beside the site
Ramu is planning to send his elder to daughter to work so that he can send his younger son to small school at the outskirts of the city when he comes of age.
