Storyboard Text

  • The rocket isn't moving because all the forces acting on it are equal. This means that it is a balanced force.
  • The space shuttle is moving becuase all the forces are not equal. This means that it is an unbalanced force. The forces are unbalanced because a force was exerted on it.
  • Newton's first law states that an object at rest or motion will stay at rest or motion until it is acted unpon by an unbalanced force.

  • This sudan is not moving because all the forces are equal (friction, gravity, etc...)
  • This moped is moving because the forces are unbalanced. The force of the engine (red aroow) is greater than the force of friction, so it moves.

  • This filing cabinet requires more force to move than the book because it has more mass. This explains inertia.
  • Newton's Second Law states that an objecet's acceleration depends on its mass and the force acting on it.

  • And I'm falling a LOT faster because I have much more weight! My speed and acceleration is greater because the force of gravity is greater than the air resistance!
  • Because of Newton's Third Law, I am falling slower because I have less weight. In other words, I have less Inertia.

  • When these two balls collide, they both move in the opposite direction that they where origionaly moving.
  • Last but not least, Newton's Third Law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

  • When we both pushed on each other with the same force, we both transfered the same aount of force back into each other. So now wer are both moving at the smae speed, but in opposite directions.
  • In places like the moon and here in outer space, the third law can be demonstrated easier.
