Storyboard Text
Ok, who can guess todays topic by what's on the board?
Ooh! Sounds?
Animal noises!
Noises?
An ear?
Birds can get really loud!
Now that we're seated, let's talk about how sound works. First, what are some sounds that are loud or quiet?
A Lion!
We are gonna see how sound waves and volume are connected because of that!
Sound waves?
Dogs can be quiet and loud!
Lizards are quiet.
Now let's try out sound by having you guess where I am while you close your eyes! Only by the sound of my voice.
Far away??
In front of me?
Somewhere in front of me?
To my side...
Can you tell where I am?
Now let's try to hear the things around us outside, try to remember them later, ok?
Remember to think about where they are in relation to you and how far!
I think there was a frog I heard near you.
I heard a squirrel in front of me.
You can all talk about what you may or may not have heard, just don't change YOUR response on what you heard because of someone else.
I didn't hear the frog!
I think I heard the squirrel too, but it was behind me.
I just heard birds and wind.
I really couldn't hear the snail, but I heard the birds!
If you didn't hear it even up close, does that mean sound doesn't change with distance?
I think it can change right?
Make sure to write down your favorite thing that you heard and least favorite at the desk and to answer my question about distance.
What about when you are moving or the object is moving? Can distance change how you can hear something?
I should talk to my mom, she might like it too...
Yeah, like if I can hear barking louder if my dog is closer!
I didn't even see a frog!
The frog still scared me! It didn't make a sound!
