- Jonas laid down and waited. He then opened his eyes, but he wasn't in the room anymore. Instead he was outside, and he felt himself moving downward. He looked down and was something new. Snow. This came to his mind quickly, he then saw what he was sitting on and it had done the same thing as the apple, Fiona's hair, and the people at the ceremony. He closed an opened his eyes and he was back in the room.

- The giver asked Jonas what he saw and what he felt. He explained how he was surprised, but he enjoyed it. The giver told him to lay down again, but this time he felt different than before. He realized that he was laying down in something called sunshine, and it came from the sky. That was all he collected before waking back up in the givers room and explaining again what had happened.

- He asked The Giver about the memories he was given, and how pleasant they were. He explained his confusion, and the giver had him lay down one last time. He opened his eyes in what seemed like the same memory as before, but he felt a stinging sensation all over his skin. Sunburn. He opened his eyes back in The Giver's room, and learned that that was nothing compared to the amount of pain he would face.
