- The friendship that George and Lennie have is a major theme in the book. They have each others back, but mostly George. Their friendship is strong that they can overcome anything.

- Crooks the only African american man in the ranch who is in his room all the time.He is isolated from the men despite working together. Lennie walks in and crooks doesn't want him in since he is the victim of racism, so his room is the only place wherer he can be alone.

- When George decided to take responsibility of Lennie when his aunt died. Know Lennie and George are always together. George could have left Lennie but instead he stuck with him.
- Lennie is powerless he has a slow mentality. He cannot survive in the world without George.
- When Curley's wife come in the barn and sees Lennie alone lennie tells her that he should not be talking to her because she will get him in trouble.
