As a peace offering, Odysseus offered the cyclops, whose name was Polyphemus some wine. Polyphemus drank the wine and proceeded to get drunk in which he fell asleep. The men did not kill the cyclops as if they did. they would be trapped by the massive boulder blocking the entrance. Odysseus also explained to the cyclops that his name was "Nohbody." When the cyclops awoke, Odysseus and his men pushed the spear into his eye, blinding him. Odysseus and his men fled by clinging to the bottom of Polyphemus's sheep.
