  • Athens Believed in education and were well known for their philosophers and architecture.
  • Athens has a military, but they focused on education more.
  • Athens Roles of Women and Slaved People
  • Women didn't have equal rights. They did house work and took care of children.
  • The slaves were their property. They had no freedom. They were treated differently depending on who their owner was.
  • Athens government is a Direct Democracy that allows voting, if you are a citizen. Citizens are men that were born in Athens.
  • Sparta's Government
  • Sparta's government is an Oligarchy.
  • Athens valued education a lot more than Sparta did, the men could be in the military they didn't have to. Women did the house work.

  • They were all trained to be warriors, the woman had to do training but only to make strong children.
  • Women in Athens weren't treated fairly, they worked in the house and took care of children. They aren't allowed to vote because they are not considered as citizens. Slaves weren't treated fairly either. The way they were treated depended on who their owners are.

  • Women in Sparta are treated well, they had to do the training that the men did. They thought strong women made strong children
  • Sparta's government is an oligarchy which means that it is ran by Kings. Sparta's is specifically ran by 2 kings.
  • Sparta focused on their military more than anything. The women had to do the military training but were not actually in the military. They men started their military training at the age of 7.
  • Sparta valued there army more than anything.
  • Women in Sparta were treated better than women in Athens. The Spartans would make the women do the physical training, they thought a stronger women would raise stronger children. Slaves were not treated fairly, they would do all the work for Sparta, if they messed up they would get whipped.
  • The slaves were treated poorly, they do all the work for the spartans, and if they did something wrong they would get whipped.
