- Camillo Cavour: Was a politician from Piedmont, one of the stronger and more unified Italian state. He wanted to defeat Austria and unite Italy. He wanted a constitutional monarchy and became the prime minister.
- Down with Austria!!! Us Italians need to unite under a constitutional monarchy!
- War with Austria: Cavour and Napoleon III plotted to provoke a war to weaken Austria. The Italians of Piedmont defeated the Austrians, driving Austria from Northern Italy. France betrays Cavour and leaves Lombardy under Austrian control. Napoleon III feared a unified Italy would upset the balance of power.
- Us Italians of Piedmont are going to crush you Austrians!!!!
- Unification and Conflict: Victor Emmanuel II is named King of Italy, and Garibaldi had to change his Republican dreams. Parliament is filled with corruption and tensions rise between industrialized north and rural, poor Southern Italy. The unification was complete with Venetia in 1866 and Rome in 1870 becoming part of Italy.
- Yay!!! Italy is finally unified!! I can finally call myself a true Italian!
