  • The Boston Massacre
  • The Boston Massacre was a confrontation that ended with the deaths of 5 people. It happened when a boy named Edward Garrick and a British soldier named Hugh White got into an argument about Captain John Goldfinch. John didn't pay Edward for doing his hair so Edward was mad and said some bad things about him. Hugh heard this and was offended because the captain was a great guy. So they argued until Hugh snapped and hit him on the head with his musket. Edward and his friend got more friends and threw snowballs at him and the noise got the attention of more people so they joined in. Soldiers came and then Edward went home but the crowd didn't. Hugh got angry and he and the soldiers shot the crowd. 5 people died and 6 people were injured.

  • The Intolerable Acts (the Coercive Acts)
  • I'M NOT YOUR WIFE AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWA- I MEAN HOUSE!?
  • What a long day at work! Hello dear wife! Have you prepared dinner yet?
  • In 1774, Britain passes the Intolerable Acts, also known as the Coercive Acts. This was made to punish Boston for the Boston Tea Party. I will summarize the Boston Tea Party briefly because I do not have a cell about it: The Sons of Liberty (led by Samuel Adams) disguised as Mohawk Indians and climbed onto 3 ships that carried tea and dumped all of it in the sea (wow that rhymes). They did it as a protest against the taxes the British Parliament made. Britain did not like the Boston Tea Party and punished Boston with 3 rules. The first rule made it so the Boston Harbor would be closed (goods could not be transported) until the colonists paid for the tea. The second rule says that the Massachusetts legislature could not meet. The colony was run by the British Military and no longer made its own decisions. The last rule was called the Quartering Act. That rule made it so you would have to house British soldiers (feed, sleep, etc) if they were in your home. So basically some random British soldier could barge in unwelcome and just live there. Colonists were definitely mad if not more than that. Ballistic, infuriated, OUTRAGED the colonists felt. The colonists had to feed them and care for them which made them lose a lot of money.

  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord
  • There was a governor of Massachusetts named General Thomas Gage who had orders from England to seize and get rebellious colonists under control. On April 18th, 1775, Paul Revere and others heard about that and rode on their horses to warn the people of Lexington and Concord about the British. A day later on April 19th, 1775, British troops came to Lexington but the colonists were ready. Unfortunately though, the militiamen were outnumbered by the 700 British soldiers. The leader of the militiamen, John Parker, told them to hold fire until the British fired first. Then, a shot rang out and the British shot several rounds at the men. The smoke cleared and 8 militiamen died while no British did and then got rid of their weapons. They checked Concord and marched to Boston. There was 2,000 militiamen waiting for them with more and more coming. The militiamen shot at the British and a lot of the British were killed or injured in battle while only 90 militiamen have died.
