  • The year was 1964, back then South Africa used to be ruled by the small white minority and followed a law known as the Apartheid the word Apartheid means apartness in our language Afrikaans, it stated that people should be separated based on their skin tone which is wrong as everybody is human.
  • I know, and only a few people had the courage to stand up to the law as many people were killed protesting.
  • But that's not right how were people allowing this?
  • During that year it would come true that Nelson Mandela would be arrested and falsely sent to prison for being a terrorist. Only in the year 1990 he would finally be let out and be allowed to lead and guide the country as the first black President.
  • But why did they choose him
  • Do you know what happened during those years before he went to prison? There were many silent and non violent protests these included bus boycotts, protests against passes and sitting in white only compartments in trains. But it didn't end there, during this process there were arrests of over 2000 supporters, and deaths of many but after a lot of effort and countless protests the international community took notice; in1952,the UN General Assembly passed its first resolutioncondemning apartheid and Black people finally were able to live at peace and comfort
  • Its amazing how Nelson Mandela was able to bring hope to people and finally succeed after years of protesting.
