How does the character look?
Jude was called names, as what she looked like based off her skin, in the text Bennett writes, "They called her Tar Baby. Midnight. Darky. Mud Pie. Said, Smile, we cant see you. Said, You so dark you blend into the chalkboard. Said, Bet you could show up naked at a funeral. bet lighting bugs follow you int he daytime. Bet when you swim it look like oil" (Bennett 84). Basing off of the names calling, readers can infer how dark Jude's complexion is.
What do they talk about?
Jude talks about working more hours to benefit her and Reese, in the text Bennett writes, "Its just a little job," she said lightly. "We could use the money" (Bennett 236). Knowing that Judes only motive was to get closer to Kennedy to find out if Stella was the Stella, or paying for Reese's surgery secretly,was something she often did and made the excuse of saying the befit from it was a plus it wasn't needed.
What effect do they have on others?
Jude telling Kennedy that that her mom lied to her about who she was, impacted Kennedy after, in the text Bennett writes, "But sometimes lying was a act of love. Stella had spent too long lying to tell the truth now, or maybe, there was nothing left to reveal. Maybe the is who she had become" (Bennett 269). Kennedy realizing the lie built into their mother- daughter relationship caused mistrust and aggression towards each other.
