dr.strauss and dr.nemur find out that Charlie is a perfect candidate for the surgery, and this would make him smarter. Nearly triple the IQ he has now. They also let him know about a mouse that is undergoing the same surgery, because the mouse and Charlie have the same disability

Charlie got the surgery and went quiet smoothly, they start to test Charlie and notice his intelligence increasing rapidly just like Algernon. he does notice that thought his intelligence is increasing his emotional intelligence isn't as much. He is able to read and write a lot better than before and he shows promise.
Charlie finds out that Algernon's brain is slowly deteriorating, he is becoming slower and having a hard time completing the maze now. Charlie realizes that this may start happening to him and he starts getting to work seeing if there was any way that he can prevent his brain from deteriorating. He then realizes there is nothing he can do to stop it .
Ms. Kinnian and Charlie starts to build their relationship. Charlie acknowledges that his brain is going to rapidly lose its intelligence soon but has now come to terms with it instead of fighting it. He realizes that this will be a great loss to him, but he knows now that intelligence doesn't make life better just easier .
