  • The first type of unemployment is Frictional Unemployment.-------------------------------------------------------------------This is Marissa. She has just graduated from medical school, and is hoping to find a new job ASAP.
  • Structural Unemployment
  • After graduating, she looks for a job. Right now, she is frictionally unemployed. There is friction in her life right now with just finishing school, therefore she will be frictionally unemployed until she finds a job.
  • Structural Unemployment
  • Luckily, Marissa found a job at one of the best hospitals in her state, and is working in her dream field: surgery. She is not frictionally unemployed anymore.
  • Structural Unemployment
  • The next type of unemployment is Structural Unemployment.-----------------------------------------------------------------------This is Bethany. She works as a typist for a big corporation.
  • However, new technology is allowing office workers, managers, CEOs, etc. to type their own documents. This means that there is no need for typists.
  • Now, Bethany is structurally unemployed. Typists are no longer needed, so Bethany was let go from her typist job. She must decide where to go from here in her career.
