Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, just appointed to lead the Massachusetts 54th Infantry in March of 1863 it was up to him, to train the first African American fighting force in the Civil War for the Union.
I just came to command of the 45th regiment and I don't know where to start.
Colonel Shaw, reporting for duty
After months of training his regiment and a few battles, Colonel Shaw was ready to make a large scale attack on Confederate Fort, Fort Wagner.
Today is the day we prove Confederates and the world that skin doesn't matter. Today we put an end on this tyranny which is trying to find a way to win. Today we fight for our lives and many more. Today is not for us, it is for everyone.
Sir, yes sir
Shaw led some of troops to the west side of the fort to penetrate through the barrier while other troop went to other sides of the fort to scale the walls.
FOR THE UNION!
Shaw and a part of his regiment got through Confederate force and made it to a parapet of the fort.
Continue fellow soldiers, claim this parapet and ambush the enemy from here.
Shaw soon realized that the soldiers behind fell to the ground one by as a victim of a Confederate ambush.
Oh God, my soldiers have been ambushed themselves. I am done!
Shaw knew his time had come.He ran toward the Confederate soldier and stabbed few soldier as he was getting shot and pierced. Though he did have a short life, he died a true hero.
