  • Anna Murray Douglass is the wife of Fredrick Douglass and is the one that helped him become free. Now you may be wondering why you nevervx heard of her. Well you don't hear many female African American abolitionist except for like Harriet Tubman and etc but we are going to be talking about the woman that made Fredrick Douglass who he is today.
  • Anna Murray Douglass was born in Denton, Maryland on March 8, 1813. Her parents are Mary and Bambara Murray and unlike her other seven siblings Anna was born free while her sibling were born into slavery.
  • At the age of 17, Anna stopped living with her parents and got a job as an laundress and housekeeper. Then also headed to Baltimore and found work as a domestic helper. Over the years, Anna earned and saved enough money to manage black churches, school and laws to guarantee their freedoms.
  • Due to Anna laudry work it sometimes took her to the docks where she met Fredrick who was then working as a caulker.
  • When they saw each other the automatically fell in love and every time they saw each other they would make up a plan to set Fredrick free since he was still in slavery and Anne was born free.
