1492 Christopher Columbus,an Italian explorer for Spain, landed in the Americas he was looking for a faster and safer way route to Asia
In 1519 Pineda set out from Jamaica to map the Gulf of Mexico. He became the first european to observe and map the Texas coast. Some of his men got arrested by Cortetés who saw the explorers as a threat to his mission
In 1519 Cortés went to cuba the Aztecs viwed cortés and his men as goods because of their horses,firearms and metal armor.
In 1526 Cabeza de Veca got ship wrecked on Galveston Island and the Karankawas gave them food & shelter. Some of the Spainiards died because of the harsh conditions and the ramaining men traveled to Texas from tribe to tribe telling people about the fabeled city of gold as a medicine man from 1528-1536
In 1540 Coranado and 1000 men went in search for the city of gold. They found the Grand Canyon, the pacific ocean, and explored all of present day Kansas.
La Salle established Fort St.Louis at Matagorta Bay. In 1685 he ran out of supplies while he was gone in Mexico getting supplies the idians attacked the fort. By 1686 45 of the original 400 people survived and on the way to French Canada in 1687 La Salle got killed by his own men. By the end of the expedition only 7 of the 400 survived.
