- The tale begins with a friar that goes around to the people of the town and asks for donations and money in return for prayers. Once he had his money he would forget about ever praying for them and move on.
- Climax

- The Summoner's Tale is the 8th story in the Canterbury Tales.
- Falling Action
- You're a fool!
- How am I supposed to divide up a fart between us. It's impossible!
- He comes across a man named Thomas that is very ill and in need of prayer for recovery. The friar goes to his house, kisses Thomas' wife, and asks to give his wealth to him and the other friars to be divided up evenly.
- Resolution/Lesson
- Who else needs my prayers???
- Thomas says that he has hid something under his butt that he would give to the friar. When the friar reaches in his pants, Thomas farts in his hand instead.
- The friar leaves in extreme anger and goes to the house of a wealthy lord where he explains what happened to him and how it is impossible to divide a fart.
- They all laugh at him and the friar continues his life of scamming people after being made a laughing stock. The lesson that can be learned from this is that lying and cheating for wealth will catch up to you and normally backfire.
