Storyboard Text

  • The fur trade brought England and France to Canada. Both countries had high demand for fur. And Canada has lots of animals with fur, So they both came.
  • Once the Europeans got to shore they saw a man on the shore, they walked over and greeted him. The man said his name was "Allambee" and he was a chief of a nearby village.
  • "Hello, I am John . I have come looking for furs. Do you have any furs? We can make trades.
  • "Hello, I am a chief Allambee. I can help you."
  • The Europeans and Aboriginal people met at trading posts to exchange goods. The Aboriginals traded furs. The Europeans traded tools, weapons, metals, fabric goods and alcohol. 
  • Through the fur trade the Aboriginal and Europeans shared languages and culture. The Aboriginals started to wear some of the Europeans clothing. The Aboriginal people taught the Europeans how to farm, and what to eat. In return the Europeans showed the Aboriginals how to hunt with the new weapons. The Europeans and Aboriginals taught each other how to hunt, farm, speak and dress like they did.

  • Through the fur trade, the Aboriginals and Europeans made political connections. The Aboriginals and the Europeans made treaties. The fur trade brought Europeans to Canada and made them form colonies in Canada. If the colonies were never made Canada would not be Canada. England and France both fought for the rich resources of Canada. In the end, England won. That is why Canada used to be ruled by the Queen of England. The Europeans got married to aboriginal people and became "metis". This formed connections through marriage.
  •  The Europeans came to Canada looking for furs. England and France brought people to collect these furs and bring them back to Europe. The people who came made colonies and formed Canada. In conclusion, if the Europeans didn't come for furs, Canada might not be Canada.
