  • BACK IN 2025...
  • At the start of the 20th century, most students, whether studying abroad or at home, had little exposure to politics. They focused instead on their academic pursuits. But by the end of early 1900s, especially in 1909, which marked a moment of the heyday of British imperialism, political assassinations had changed the situation. The change was further intensified in the 1930s. Gandhi’s Civil Disobedience movement inspired not only people across India but also activists in Britain, especially in London. Students became a driving force for political changes. In the speeches, there were so many young faces. Both Indian and British students… they showed up because it mattered to them. This powerful shift from the early 1900s to the 1930s made me realise that independence movements aren’t just fueled by politicians or iconic leaders, but also by students brave enough to imagine a different future. Our peace today does not come from nowhere but from the hard work of previous activists who dedicated themselves to it. I really need to join the UCL Indian Society now and start to put some effort into building interracial friendships!

  • The year 1909 marked the climax of British imperialism. It shaped the British sense of superiority, dominance, and authority. The assassination was committed to spotlight the pressing social and political injustices under colonial rule, and it ignited a spark of resistance. I must let it happen. it's important in arising Indian nationalism and paving the path toward independence.
