- Riya: Hello, sister. My Maths teacher has given us one holiday assignment to do. Could you please help me do it?
- Shweta: Ya, sure. Tell me what your homework is!
- As that the angle of the elevation of the top of stairs from a point on the ground which is 30m away from the foot of the stairs is 30 degrees.
- Riya: This is a question from application of trignometry. I have to find out the height of these stairs.
- Shweta: Oh that's really simple! To find out the height of the stairs take cos or tan theta, put the value of theta i.e. 30 degrees that would be equal to the height of the stairs divided by the length i.e. 30m.
- And yes do not forget to take the height of the stairs as 'x' metres.
- Shweta: So, tan 30= x metres divided by 30 metres. We know that tan 30 is 1 by root 3. So 1 by root 3 will be equal to x metres by 30 metres.
- By substituting the values, we get 'x' as 10root3 metres which is the height of the stairs.
- Shweta: It's alright, sister.
- Riya: Oh, that's absolutely right! Why didn't I think of this! Well, thank you so much for helping out.
