- Pappi, Irene's father soon got beaten and seriously injured by one of the soldiers. The family was starting to get worried they where all just used for labor and wold soon die. Years had gone by, and after many sacrifices they where finally transported to a safer camp.
- I'm sorry I missed a day of work, please stop!
- Camp Westerbork
- On the very long train ride to the last camp, Pappi was very weak and starting to loose faith they would ever make it out alive. Days passed on the train, and he died. This was the biggest event for the family, they didn't know what to do. Irene felt alone, as the rest of her family started getting sick. once they arrived to a stop, they made a memorial for him on a bench. Everything was different, and Irene was at a more mature age. Their very last camp is in Africa.
- More years pass at the camp in Africa, and Warner and Mutti had to head to a different camp for the sick people. Things are starting to get better, and Irene is living happily with other children her age with a safe environment. Irene sends letters to her family, and she finally gets to get on a boat to New York to start a new life many years later.
- I can't believe I'm fifteen years old, and I can finally go to America to be a free person.
