- I have come here to ask the hand of your daughter Natalya in marriage
- I am glad that you have come to me. I have always considered you as a son
- What brings you here today Lomov? And why are you in evening dress?
- I am sorry for interrupring but 'your' Oxen meadows?
- I have known you since my childhood and our families have been very close. Even our lands are neighborsas you know. My oxen meadows touch your birch woods.
- Oxen meadows belong to our family. Think Lomov, how long have they been yours?
- How long? As long as I can remember. I can show you the documents. The land originally belonged to my aunt's grandmother.
- Lomov, our main character has come to ask the hand of his wealthy neighbor's daughter Natalya. Chubukov has accepted this request and encourages the man to take consent of his daughter.

- As Chubukov starts telling Lomov more about Natalya, She herself walks in the room surprised to see Lomov. Chubukov then decides to let the 2 of them talk alone. But as Lomov tries to propose, things start to escalate.
- Guess is a well bred dog and is miles clear of Squeezers
- My heart is beating awfully and my leg has gone to sleep. Don't make it worse.
- Forgive us Lomov. The meadows are truly yours.
- Everyone knows Squeezers is better. He is young and has huge potential.
- Things start to get heated when they argue about who owns those meadows.
- Hurry up and get married
- Due to the loud noises coming from the room, Chubukov entered the room and began supporting his daughter and claiming that the meadows was owned by his family. In anger, Lomov ends up leaving the house.
- Chubukov then starts muttering to himself out of rage and remembers that Lomov had come to propose Natalya. Hearing this, Natalya starts crying and begs her father to bring him back. After Lomov comes back, Chubukov exits to give them some privacy. They decide to change the topic and talk about their dogs.
- Chubukov then comes back into the room. he finds them arguing over dogs. Lomov suddenly collapses and Natalya cries thinking Lomov as died. Chubukov then quickly pours water on his head and Lomov wakes up. They both end up coming to a end and kiss.
