- I didn't think I had anything serious, because I have only been coughing for 3 weeks!!
- Im sorry madam, but you are diagnosed with tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria usually attacks the lungs, but tuberculosis bacteria can attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine, and brain.
- Its okay madam, I'm sure you will have a hasty recovery.
- Thank you doctor, I'm glad this is treatable.
- The risk of infection can be reduced by using a few simple precautions:good ventilation: as TB can remain suspended in the air for several hours with no ventilation.natural light: UV light kills off TB bacteria.good hygiene: covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing reduces the spread of TB bacteria.
