It definitely has changed and not for the better. Did you know that already three million people have died under his rule?
The Next Day
Ok, I guess. This place has really changed since the Europeans colonized it.
Many Africans have left the Congo to go to other remote uncolonized places too.
We have also lost our freedom since the Colonization. Many of our people have lost their hands and feet from the torture of King Leopold ll.
We should gather up the Congolese people and do something about this problem!
Yes!
No more torture!
We want freedom!
The Congolese people fought for independence with protests, demonstrations, and international pressure towards King Leopold ll in 1908. Anti European religions were formed and huge riots were held in Leopoldville in 1959. In 1960 Belgian Congo turned into the Democratic Republic of Congo and the fighting for independence was a success. “We are proud of this struggle, of tears, of fire, and of blood, to the depths of our being, for it was a noble and just struggle, and indispensable to put an end to the humiliating slavery which was imposed upon us by force" (Case Studies).
Belgian Congo was a Direct Rule. A direct rule is a system of government where a providence is controlled by a central government.
