How can I become more culturally responsive?
What does this mean?
MULTICULTURAL LITERATURE!
What will it look like?
The use of materials that reflect various identities of students !
- provide culturally and linguistically responsive instruction that respects diversity of ability, age, class, ethnicity, gender, language, race, religion, and sexual orientation to support academic achievement of all students
Why is this standard significantl for educators?
BE AN ADVOCATE FOR ALL YOUR STUDENTS!!!
By respecting cultural differences and using curricular and instructional practices related to the cultures of their students, schools and classrooms become inclusive.(i.e., introducing a wide range of multicultural children's literature in the classroom or through library time)
How would I apply and strive to make use of this standard?
- Ensuring bulletin boards, displays, instructional materials, and other visuals in the classroom reflect students’ racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
Thank you!
The standard is useful for educators because it advocates for teachers to educate themselves more for their students!
Learning, using, and displaying some words in students’ heritage language. Cross-cultural literacy awareness benefits both students and teachers in building a community of learners.
