Storyboard Text

  • Agamemnon questions why the suitors were down in the underworld. Amphimedon, who Agamemnon knew for a while, summarized what happened to them during the slaughter. This is significant because it shows us that Odysseus did not let the suitor's bodies free and let them rot in the underworld.
  • "We were courting the wife of Odysseus, gone so long. / She neither spurned nor embraced a marriage she despised, / no, she simply planned our death, our black doom!" (24.136-138).
  • "Amphimedon, what disaster brings you down to the dark world?" (24.114).
  • Odysseus finally reveals that he is Laertes' son and gives him full proof. This scene is significant because the reader finally meets Laertes' and we learn his personality after the "death" of Odysseus
  • "Living proof and Laertes' knees went slack, his heart surrendered" (24.384).
  • "Put it from your mind. Let's make for your lodge / beside the orchard here" (24.97-98).
