- Firstly, The tectonic plates moves toward each other by crashing against each other, as one plate is being pushed down and forced to be underneath the other tectonic plate. When the plates grind together, they get stuck and the pressure starts to builds up. Finally, the pressure between the plates is so strong, that it starts to break loose, causing an earthquake

- In Sri Lanka, as many as 30,000 people died from the 2004 tsunami. Massive damage to infrastructure and capital assets, particularly in tourism. The loss was estimated at US$1billion, and many people lost their primary source of livelihood.
- Indonesia were also one of the country that were badly affected by the tsunami. It was recorded as one of the worst natural disaster to ever happen in Indonesia. It suffered the most deaths at 167,420. The total economic cost of damage was estimated at US$ 9.4 billion,
