Siddhartha Gautama was born in the 500 BCE in Nepal (India). He grew up as a wealthy Hindu prince, and had all the luxuries he desired. His father was a king and he wanted Siddhartha to be a king as well.
no one should have to suffer this much
Siddhartha’s father shielded him from everything unpleasant because he wanted Siddhartha to become a king and not a holy man or spiritual leader. A fortune teller told his father that Siddharha could take either of these paths. He was hidden from the truth and never saw suffering.
four noble truths
eight fold path
One night Siddhartha rode out of the palace with no guards, on the first ride he saw an old poor man on the second ride he saw an old man suffering and shrunken from disease. The third ride he saw a dead man and realized he too would face age, sickness and death. On the last ride he saw a man with nothing but he was content so Siddartha decide to do the same thing and set out to reach enlightenment.
He Began his search by riding out of the palace and seeing suffering, on his ride he comes across a man who has nothing but is content. Siddartha decides to do the same and joins a group called the ascetics, he leaves behind all his luxuries and gets very little sleep water or food. He later is so skinny and faints multiple times, so he decides to leave the ascetics.
One day when Siddhartha renewed his search he decided to meditate under a fig tree. He meditated for 48 days, during this time he came to understand the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. Once he reached awareness he was free from suffering and became known as the buddha.
After reaching enlightenment buddha went back to his home to teach about others buddhism. For the following 45 years Buddha traveled across India spreading the teachings of buddhism.
