  • THE BASTILLE IS OURS!!
  • The Estates-General of 1789 was a general assembly representing the French estates of the realm summoned by Louis XVI to propose solutions to France's financial crisis. This is related to the French Revolution because any decisions made affected the revolution and it represented a step towards democracy. The third estate feared that if the representatives voted by order then the clergy and nobility would overrule them on every vote and the third estate would have no power in the meeting.
  • The March On Versailles
  • We want bread!!
  • THE KING NEEDS TO COME WITH US!!
  • After the Third Estate declared and pledged themselves the National Assembly, they moved to an indoor tennis court because they feared that the king would dismiss them at their meeting hall. There they took an oath never to separate until a written constitution, the constitution of 1791, had been established for France.
  • The Reign Of Terror
  • Put them in the guillotine!
  • Off with their heads!!
  • On July 14, 1789, a state prison on the east side of Paris, known as the Bastille, was attacked by an angry and aggressive mob. When the prison governor refused to comply, the mob charged and, after a violent battle, eventually took hold of the building. Which helped signal the start of the French Revolution.
  • The Rise Of Napoleon
  • I, Napoleon, will now become the ruler of France!
  • Concerned over the high price and scarcity of bread, women from the marketplaces of Paris led the March on Versailles on October 5, 1789. They promised to return back to Paris only if the king agreed to go with them. He did and this represented another step towards democracy.
  • After the death of the king, Robespierre rose up and created a republic. He was one of the many chief architects of the Reign of Terror. Many were arrested and also died from the diseases that were in the prisons. Instead of an ax, Dr Joseph-Ignace Guillotin introduced the guillotine, where its blade did the beheading. Members of the convention turned on the Committee of Public Safety and arrested Robespierre. The next day he was executed and the executions decreased dramatically.
  • Napoleon had lots of military success. After the death of Robespierre, Napoleon took it upon himself to take control of France. He had crowned himself Emperor in 1804. He then reformed France with his own reforms. Napoleon taking power was a huge leap towards democracy because he listened to the people.
