  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: People are quick to blame
  • IT'S TOMMY, HE'S THE ONE!
  • One of the main themes in The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling is people are quick to blame, because Charlie said, Hes always been an old ball. Him and his whole family. Real oddball. (673). Charlie quickly calls Les Goodman and his family strange. This shows how people often judge others right away just because they are strange or act in a way that's different. Another reason is because Charlie said, Its..its Tommy. He's the one! (681). This shows that Charlie is mad at Tommy because he thinks Tommy’s comments about aliens are the reason for their problems. Instead of talking to Tommy and figuring things out, Charlie just starts blaming him. He doesn't even try to understand what’s really going on. It feels like Charlie is just looking for someone to blame instead of solving the real problem. Another reason is because Don said, Its Charlie. He's the one! (683). Don quickly blames Charlie because he’s scared and confused. This shows when people are scared, they point fingers without really thinking. The residents are nervous and want to find someone to blame for the weird things happening, so they pick Charlie as an easy target. This is why the appropriate theme for this story is people are quick to blame.
