- The boys and the girls live in seperate worlds. The boys in their universe and we in ours. the brother has plenty to say about esperanza and nenny inside the house, but outside they cant be seen talking to girls

- Esperanza papa just told her that her abulito had died, papa told her first because shes the oldest in the family,

- Rafaelas husband has her leaning out the window because he doesnt let her leave anywhere, hes afraid she will run away because of how beautiful she is, he doesnt want her going anywhere

- Esperanza wants a house all on her own, not an aparment, not a man's houe, her own, with her books and stories, with her shoes waitng besides her bed

- Eseranza leaves mango street afterall, she didnt like the house she lived in, she wanted something of her own, she made a story of her life, for each step her brown shoe took. shes gone away to come back.
