Hi there! Have you ever think about how rains form?
Let's explore to find out!
Evapotranspiration
Condensation
Well, Rainfall can also be shown in the water cycle. Water cycle is a path that water follows. It moves around the Earth in different states.
Precipitation
We got the main idea of Evapotranspiration which is evaporation, it is when the sun's heat warms water surfaces, from liquid to gas and rise up, because of great kinetic energy which would allow its particles to move freely to each other, thus less force of attraction compared to its liquid state. Though, Sublimation can also contribute to the formation of clouds as the ice which is solid, directly turn into gas.
Surface Runoff
Starting here in this place, Evapotranspiration occurs. it is the sum of evaporations from many different surfaces. You may be curious what evaporation is. Evaporation is the changing of liquid to gas, which would rise up in the atmosphere, as there is heat applied, like this sun's heat to the ocean, or in plants, which would be called transpiration.
In condensation, those gas molecules start to cool and turn into liquid, forming clouds, singly or severally enough.
Infiltration and Percolation
Here we are, where we see water being absorbed from the surface to the ground, is what we call Infiltration, as the name suggests its sense. Then the water moves through the soil and this is what we call "Percolation" and can go back to the ocean after being groundwater or be absorbed by the trees here, then go through transpiration again.
When the water starts to fall, it may become rain, snow, sleet, or hail. However, these depend on the environment's temperature
Runoff is the stage of the water cycle, where the water from Precipitation are flowing over surfaces, it may be because space between the particles of the soil are mostly occupied, or in surfaces which do not absorb.
Now here we see that those released rain, that would be surface water, from the clouds are flowing or running off the land and may be carried by the stream. Yet, some of the water can be evaporated back, or be absorbed by the surface and be groundwater to go back to the ocean. Let's just say those that aren't one of them are water going through surface runoff.
In the Infiltration stage, the water is absorbed by the soil from the surface, hence its particles are not fully occupied. Then Percolation is when those liquid moves in the soil and go through where it is able to. It can go to the ground water and then to the ocean or such as in some bodies of water.
