- Perhaps it was a gypsy whistling in the middle of the night...
- Miss Stoner you are in great danger, but I have a plan. You'll have to put a lamp in the window and stay in your own room all night.
- I've heard a strange whistle.
- Your stepfather has hurt you badly.
- Dr Roylott doesn't know how strong he is.
- What has my stepdaughter been saying to you?
- Holmes and Watson decided to visit Stoke Moran that afternoon while Dr Roylott was in London.
- I can't see why this work is neccesary.
- I'm sure it is only an excuse to get me to move from my room.

- It was easy for Dr Roylott to have a snake, he had other strange animals. So he kept it in his safe and fed it with milk. He called it with a whistle.
- I knew the speckled band was a snake when I saw the ventilator, the rope and the bed fixed to the floor in Julia's room.
- I hit the snake with my stick, but the blows made it angry. That's why it bit its master.
