  • Question 1. Mrs. Crandall spent $77 on window shades that were on sale for a certain percent discount.  The original price of the shades was $90. What percent was the discount.
  • To solve this problem I first subtracted 77 from 90 to get 13. Then I divided 13 by $90 and got 0.14. Lastly I multiplied this by 100 to get 14. Therefore the discount was 14%.
  • Question 2.The price of gas increases from $2.20 per gallon on Monday to $2.31 on Tuesday. What is the percent of increase?
  • To solve this problem I first subtract 2.20 from 2.31 to get 0.11. I then divided 0.11 by 2.20 to get 0.05. Lastly I multiplied 0.05 by 100 to get 5. Therefore the percent of increase is 5%.
  • Question 3.The attendance for the basketball game was estimated to be 5,000 people but 2,500 people attended. What was the percent of error?
  • To solve this problem I first subtracted 2,500 from 5,000 to get 2,500. I then divided 2,500 by 2,500 to get 1. Lastly I multiplied this by 100 to get 100. Therefore the percent of error is 100%.
