Storyboard Text

  • Retelling of the Odyssey books 9-23
  • Book 9- " New coast's and Poesidon's son"
  • I am Laertes’ son, Odysseus. What shall I say first? (Homer 1210)
  • "Lotus eaters"
  • "‘All hands aboard; come, clear the beach and no one taste the Lotus, or you lose your hope of home.’ (homer 1212)

  • ‘Strangers,’ he said, ‘who are you? And where from?What brings you here by sea ways" (homer 1215)
  • Odysseus is welcomed by King Alcinous, and he tells him about his journey and the obstacles be faced coming home to Ithica
  • "Cyclopes pt. 2"
  • " “ but my men riding on the pectoral fleece the giant’s blind hands blundering never found” “( Homer 1220)
  • Odysseus and his crew landed on this island in a dense fog and spent days feasting on wine and wild goats. On the third day, Odysseus and his crew stayed to see if the Cyclops and him were friends or foes
  • Book 10- Circe the Grace Witch turns men into pigs
  • Scarce had they drunk when she flew after themwith her long stick and shut them in a pigsty—(homer 1225)
  • Odysseus and his men find Polyphemus and he covers the entrance to the cave with a rock so that they can't get out. He ate 2 of his men and he wanted to kill the beast. Then he quickly realized he could not get out without him so he came up with a plan. He gave the Cyclops wine and told him he was "Nohbody"
  • ‘Cyclops, try some wine.Here’s liquor to wash down your scraps of men."(homer 1218)
  • The Cyclops was drunk and that's when Odysseus used a sharpened branch to stab him in the eye. He cried in pain and when he asked who did it they said "Nohbody". Polyphemus then removed the rock from the entrance and let his sheep out, and while he was still blind Odysseus and his men escaped by ridding on the backs of the sheep.
  • Odysseus and his men later came upon Circe the witch and she gave his men food and added an extra ingredient that turned his men into pigs
  • Book 11- The land of the dead Tiresias warning
  • "“ But if you raid the beeves, I see destruction for the ship and crew. Thorough you survive alone, bereft of all companions, lost for years, under strange sail shall you come home, to find your house filled with trouble. ” ( homer 1229)
  • Book 12- The Sirens, Scylla, and Charybdis.- Circe's warning
  • plug your oarsmen’s earswith beeswax kneaded soft; none of the restshould hear that song." (homer 1230)
  • The Sirens and Scyla
  • “ I carved a massive cake of beeswax into bits.” ( Homer 1234) They put beeswax in their ears to not listen to the music.
  • Tiresias warns Odysseus about the obstacles he will be facing. He had to listen to the advice because if he did not he would never get home and when he did get home, there would be trouble there as well.
  • Book 21- The test of the bow.- Competiton to win Penelope
  • Circe warned Odysseus about the Sirens and the sea monster that he will come across on their journey home to Ithica.
  • Odysseus Tries the bow competition.
  • And here we are. Just as Circe warned Odysseus and his crew came across Scylla and Charybdis. They made it safely following Circe's instructions. And I think it was hard for Odysseus to follow instructions from other people but he did.
  • Book 22- Death In The Great Hall.- Odysseus and his helpers defeat the suitors
  • Penelope gets Odysseus bows out of the storeroom and announces that she will marry the suitor who and string it and then shoot an arrow through a line of twelve axes. But little do they know, Odysseus is the only one who can.

  • Odysseus desgised himself as a begger to ensure that the suitors wouldn't recognize him. Odysseus easily strings it and sends the first arrow through all twelve axes.
  • “Telemachus, the strangeryou welcomed in your hall has not disgraced you.I did not miss, neither did I take all daystringing the bow.(homer 1255)
  • He gets his second arrow and sends it throght the throw of Antinous and he finally revels himself to everyone. Then him and is helpers kill several suitors.
  • Odysseus’ arrow hit him under the chinand punched up to the feathers through his throat.( homer 1256)
  • Book 23- The trunk of the Olivbe tree.- Ponelope tests Odysseus.
  • Who dared to move my bed?No builder had the skill for that—unlessa god came down to turn the trick. No mortalin his best days could budge it with a crowbar.There is our pact and pledge, our secret sign,built into that bed—my handiworkand no one else’s!An old trunk of olivegrew like a pillar on the building plot,
  • Ponelope orders Eurycleia to move her bed. Odysseus suddenly says no because the house is build around the trunk of the Olive tree and that's when Ponelope know that's her husband.
