  • Slide: 1
  • "I now possess the throne and all its powers, by nearness of kinship to the dead." (96)
  • Soooo uh someone broke the law already... But it wasn't me!!
  • Creon is confident, boastful and proud to be king and makes a new law. But soon after a guard comes to tell him that somebody broke the law and buried Polyneices body. Creon belittles and gets upset at the guard for not doing his job as he flaunts his authority. As he was interacting with the guard he was contemptuous and imperious.

  • "Pass then to the world of the dead, and if you must needs love, love them. While I live no woman shall rule me." (104)
  • But I just wanted to be able to bury my brother!
  • Antigone and Creon are arguing because she buried Polyneices even though there was a law forbidding it. Creon became indignant and disgruntled as he was yelling at Antigone and deciding her punishment for breaking his decree. Since he was intransigent he didn't really consider her reasoning because it was just her brother.

  • "You can never marry her, on this side the grave." (109)
  • "Then she must die, and in death destroy another." (110)
  • Creon keeps being obstinate and inflexible as he puts his law even over his own son. Haemon begged for Creon to let Antigone go since that is his future wife, but Creon just won't let it go because he is vindictive. This puts a grudge between their relationship and Haemon threatens to even kill himself since his father won't listen.
