3D printed organs

Storyboard Text

  • Slide: 1
  • So, I have a bad kidney, and I was wondering if you could describe the innovation on kidney disease treatment?!
  • Slide: 2
  • I'm glad you asked! Innovations include the wait times we discussed earlier, and that patients will no longer reject organs as they are their own cells and no wait times !
  • I'm interested in any impacts 3D printed organs have on people like me and society?!
  • Slide: 3
  • Yes, I did thank you! I would love to start a 3D organ trial !
  • wow that was all very interesting! I'm a bit confused about everything you told me, could you summarise it for me?
  • Slide: 0
  • sure thing! The impacts would be reduced wait times for organ recipients as printing hollow organs print faster! and reduced price as the average transplant cost for a kidney in 2020 was $442,500 (Kirsten Rogers 10 March 2023) while 3D would only cost about $100,000! This also means safer treatment as they do not have to monitor, transport, surgery and care of the organ that was harvested (Kirsten Rogers 10 March 2023)
  • Sure thing! today we discussed the price of organs now vs 3D printed now being $442,500 vs 3D printed being $100,000, (Kirsten Rogers 10, March 2023) we looked at the wait time being decreased to 24 hours from months/years (Kristen rogers 10, March 2023) we looked at the death rate that people waiting for transplants is 17 people every day sad. We discussed organ rejection and how this would be obsolete as it is made up of their own cells (Kristen Rogers 10, March 2023) The wait list now a days being 106,800 men, woman and children (Kristen Rogers 10, March 2023) and we also discussed the transport, care and harvesting would be very little. Hope you got that all again!!
