  • Prior to the French Revolution King Louis XVI’s subjects were in devastation with the monarchy, the whole nation faced famine with raising taxes due to immense government debt. But the monarch and his nobles usually partied and attended towards their own affair, neglecting the condition of the nation.

  • The Storming of Bastille symbolized the abusive power of the monarchy in France as aggressive mobs seized control of the building. While Louis’s troops raided the prison for valuables such as arms and prisoners. The Bastille slated the enforcement of the Third Estate during the revolution leading to the Tennis Court Oath on July 14, 1789.
  • In response to the Storming of Bastille and the indecisive Estates General, the third estate gathered at an indoor tennis court in order to discuss how the mass would function and establish its principles amongst France. The estate initiated the National Assembly that demanded rights and made laws upon the Enlightenment ideas which led to the Declaration of the Rights of Man with the natural rights of liberty, property, sercuity. and the resistance to oppresion.
