- The theme for the story to build a fire is, Man Vs Danger. I chose this theme because you can see how all throughout the text the man is battling his approach toward the serious weather conditions. We can see how his illogical approaches are leading to his suffering and how his dog is actually sustaining himself safely within the same conditions, supporting my theme Man Vs Danger.
- Setting
- One symbol would be the dog. The dog represents how to use instinct and true survival to overcome the difficult weather conditions. This is one symbol.
- Cliffhanger
- I can characterize the man as naive and hardheaded as he approaches the difficult weathers conditions in a way that satisfies himself but in reality is dangerous and causing all the suffering.
- Foreshadow
- This story takes place in Canada, in the Yukon Territory. It is a very dark and cold area.
- The cliff hanger was how the text ended with the man dying. He realized that was going to die regardless therefore leading us reader with a cliffhanger that he was not going to keep trying to survive rather just die.
- A major foreshadow is the old timer when he warned the man that no man must travel alone in the Klondike after fifty below. This foreshadow shows how he warned the man that it was going to be dangerous.
