Storyboard Text

  • There were many slaves in rich homes. They would clean the house, take care of the children, and they would feed the people in the house. If something were to break, the slaves would be gathered all together to find out who did it. The master would call the undertaker who would torture the slaves until they found out who broke the item. Many people believed that slaves had to be punished for their actions.
  • Whenever the rich family members had to go somewhere, the slaves would carry them around in a litter. A litter had cushions in them and curtains hanging from the roofs to keep them cool. Two slaves would carry one litter, and there would only be one person inside the litter at a time.
  • In Rome, there were public baths that people would go to every day. These baths were called the Baths of Agrippa. Women would go in the morning, to avoid the men, and men would go later in the day. Slaves would go after everyone else. Women had their separate baths on one side of the huge area. People would go from dark rooms to light rooms, cold water to room temperature water, and then to hot water. People then got massages, oils on their skin, and they would get scraped to get all the dirt off their skin.
